Hive

So while working on my submission for Doctor-Awkward’s contest I stumbled upon another. Rather than making a henchman for a villain, maltorramus maltorramus.deviantart.com/ is challenging people to make nemeses (Nemisi?) for their collection of heroes. I decided to make a villain to go up against their psychic heroine Spinel. I had a generic idea for a hive mind style villainess, just hypnotizing people and making them act as her puppets, but I think the final take is a little more original.

Powers

Short range telepathy: Hive has the power to sense the thoughts and feelings of others. If she holds them close for a short time (minutes to a few hours depending on how complicated the mind is and how much it resists her) she can absorb every thought, skill and desire they ever had into herself.  This process is extremely devastating to the mind of her victims and can put them into comas of varying lengths.

Telekinetic constructs: Hive can form golden clones of the people and animals she has absorbed telepathically. These telekinetic constructs will act the same as the originals save for an undying loyalty to Hive.

Weaknesses

Unconscious or mental impairment: Hive can only use her powers when awake and focusing on them. Blows to the head, drugs and other chemical agents, or even mental attack from other powerful psychics can disrupt her telepathic and telekinetic powers. She’s no stronger than any other human woman and can be taken down just as easily assuming one can get past her army of golden servants.

Bio

Naomi grew up as a relatively normal, if lonely, girl in Tallahassee Florida. An awkward young woman with feelings for both girls and boys, Naomi had a hard time making friends or romantic relationships for most of her life and generally had difficulty understanding people at all. Despite her inability to connect with others emotionally or mentally that didn’t stop others from wanting to connect with the pretty young woman physically. At the age of eighteen she found herself in bed with a young quarterback after a night of awkward flirting.

While the young man would have written off the evening as a one-night stand, Naomi felt something special as she laid in bed next to him. She could feel his resting mind, his thoughts, his hopes dream and desires, all of it. This was the deepest connection she had ever made with anyone before and Naomi was determined to make it deeper. She processed every thought the young man ever had at a lightning fast pace and when she was finally done he appeared before her, glowing, golden and completely ready to serve at her will. She was so amazed at the golden clone that she barely even registered the comatose boy in her bed.

After the first taste of her newfound powers Naomi became addicted. She sought out any mind she could to absorb, men, women, even animals, anyone she could get her hands on long enough to absorb she did and she gained more and more golden servants with each one.

Eventually the side effects of the process could not be ignored. Naomi knew what she was doing was hurting people, but she didn’t care. The sheer wonder of every new connection outweighed any concern she had for the actual people she left behind. Unfortunately for Naomi, the people of Tallahassee didn’t feel the same way and many rumors were beginning to swirl around the young woman.

Deciding to abandon her hometown she moved to Miami for a fresh start. She didn’t have much money, but her golden army was good for collecting everything a girl could need. Breaking and entering, theft and kidnapping became a regular occurrence for Naomi until she decided to embrace her new life of villainy entirely. Terrorizing the city of Miami as the villainess Hive.

One night while attempting to seize some drunken vacationers for her mental collection Hive was interrupted by the homegrown heroine Spinel. The young psychic was able to save the citizens from Hive clutches, but wound up knocked out and captured herself and taken back to Hive’s lair. There Hive began to absorb the young heroine into her own mind and was astonished by the sensation of absorbing another telepath’s thoughts. It was a whole new ball game for her, almost like she was absorbing someone for the very first time again. She was so amazed however that she failed to recognize her captive was waking and was caught off guard when Spinel attacked her with her mind blast. The mental attack left Hive reeling and gave the heroine enough time to escape into the night, but it wouldn’t be the last they saw of each other. Hive was now determined to hunt down Spinel, following the heroine to Dream Haven and Guardian City to add her wonderful mind to her collection.
